Blogger and WordPress are the two best blogging platforms in my opinion. Everybody gets confused when told to choose between them. The geeks and tech bloggers would probably say WordPress is better but the newbies and personal bloggers who just blog for sharing their feelings would choose Blogger. So, in this post I will give you a detailed comparison between Blogger and WordPress which will help you to choose the better one
Simplicity
This is the first thing you see. How simple is Blogger or WordPress. When you will use both the sites for just a mere 5 minutes, you will notice that Blogger is much simpler than WordPress. Blogger has the useful icons directly shown on the dashboard where as in WordPress, sometimes we have to find the options we need(my experience). Blogger is the clear winner of this round.
Winner - Blogger
Post Editor
Everybody creates a blog to publish posts in it, so the post editor is needed to be great. Lets talk about WordPress post editor first. It has got some options which Blogger doesn't have and Blogger has some options which WordPress doesn't have. The options include -> Translate and Transliterate(in Blogger) and Paste as Plain Text, Pastes from Word and Insert Custom Character(in WordPress). Moving on, WordPress post editor can be made to full screen by just one button where as Blogger post editor can be dragged to make big which I have not liked too much. So, I want to award this round to WordPress.
Winner -WordPress
Themes
Some people(like me) look at the theme of the blog first and then move on. So, the theme should be so good the visitors are so attracted with the theme that they end up reading and commenting on your blog. Blogger has some good free themes but for me it has always been difficult to decide whereas WordPress themes are so elegant and all types of theme are available which make it more better. Many sites offer premium themes for WP and they are definitely excellent. So, this round definitely goes to WordPress.
Winner -WordPress
Features
The features need to be excellent because the blogger is always likely to get more and more features so that he can fulfill all of his needs. Let me talk about the standalone feature of both the platforms which can hold them one-handedly. For blogger, it is template designer because it is the most unique and the most efficient template designer. For WordPress, it is the plugins. Nothing beats them. Lacs of plugins vs Tens of themes. You may have just got the result.
Winner - WordPress
Commenting Systems
Once you create a blog, publish posts, you will probably get comments and for that your commenting system should be good. WordPress default commenting system contains three fields --> Name, Blog, Email. Blogger default commenting system contains two fields --> Google account username and password. Plus, mostly Blogger opens up a specific page for commenting where as WordPress commenting system get mixed with the theme to give a better look. So, here again the winner is WordPress.
Winner -WordPress
Conclusion
Its totally clear. Blogger won 1 round out of 5 and the other four have been won by WordPress so the winner of this mega comparison is WORDPRESS. You have to try it and you will love it. The people who have tried it know about its awesomeness. Even though Blogger is good but it is not for the professionals. So, switch to WordPress soon.
Full comparison chart between them :-
In the following chart features at Blogger (blogspot.com) and Wordpress.com are compared. These are the two main contenders for free blog hosting. Features which are clearly better at either BlogSpot or Wordpress have been highlighted. Widgets are listed in another summary table after the features list. If you have your own website with PHP/MySQL support, you can download and use WordPress with no restrictions (get it here).
Blogger comments:
Visitors can preview comments. They can also choose to receive follow-up comments by email. However, the embedded Comment Form option is entirely dependent on JavaScript. Spam filtering is now available as an alternative to moderating every comment.
Wordpress comments:
In 2009 Wordpress.com added follow-ups by email and comment threading options. Wordpress has more comment options than Blogger, but there have been problems with Akismet spam protection. See this post on the WP user forum...

Widgets compared:
In addition, WordPress shortcodes are widgets for individual posts.
New: Blogger now has a favicon option. At WordPress, blavatars.
Although the Wordpress.com collection of 100+ themes sounds like a lot, finding features you might want is a challenge. Customization options are limited unless you pay for an upgrade that allows stylesheet editing. Wordpress.com uses a scheme called Typekit for changing fonts, while Blogger offers a straightforward method to choose between standard fonts (in addition to standard fonts there are Google Web Fonts). Both systems have Mobile Templates.

Theme choices
Blogger has introduced new, easy-to-customize templates. Earlier templates can be modified, or you can install a third-party theme. Make sure that third-party themes have the latest layout tags.Although the Wordpress.com collection of 100+ themes sounds like a lot, finding features you might want is a challenge. Customization options are limited unless you pay for an upgrade that allows stylesheet editing. Wordpress.com uses a scheme called Typekit for changing fonts, while Blogger offers a straightforward method to choose between standard fonts (in addition to standard fonts there are Google Web Fonts).
